Description
- I uninstalled my previous version of Eraser (It was the last stable version before 5.8.8; I think it was 5.8.7 and if that doesn't exist then it was 5.8 or 5.7).
- rebooted computer
- I tried to run the installer for 6.0.6.1376. It gets to the part where it tries to copy files but then it locks up and doesn't respond. I can't get into Task Manager or use other parts of Windows. I have to press the reset button or power off button on my computer in order to use the computer again.
Reproduced three out of three times.
I was able to install v5.8.8 without problems on Win 7 64-bit Pro. I was able to install 6.0.6.1376 on a different computer with Windows XP Pro 32-bit.

I can't imagine what can be wrong with this -- I'm running Windows 7 x64 as well and the bootstrapper code works perfectly fine. Unless you're able to tell me where the code stops exactly I won't be able to make any more diagnoses with this, sorry.
In any case, it sounds more software than hardware. What software have you got running? Are you able to run the bootstrapper in Safe mode? The installer won't run, but if the bootstrapper does extract the file successfully at least you'll know it's a software issue.

Here is my computer spec (last updated 2/19/10):
